  • Walkable streets make it easy to reach what you need

Local Lifestyle

Like the other Proviso Township villages, Melrose Park attracts families, young professionals, and retirees who are seeking the convenience of city living, but the serenity of the suburbs. This is the pleasant type of community where backyard BBQs liven up summer nights, kids giggle as they race under sprinklers, and everyone comes out for the first snow of the season. Family and friends gather at the movie theater, parks, village center, restaurants, arcades, and ice-cream shops, enjoying the kinship of the neighborhood.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Chicago loves its steakhouses, but Melrose Park residents needn’t even leave town to savor the specialties of Tom’s Steak House. Tuck into USDA prime-aged steaks, lamb chops, pork chops, fresh fish and seafood, oysters Rockefeller, and scrumptious desserts. If you’re feeling like Italian food, grab a table at Abruzzo’s, a family-owned and -operated spot serving pasta, pizzas, soups, salads, cocktails, and more in a cozy setting with attentive service. Grab your neighbors and watch the big game at Division Street Tap, a beloved local watering hole with great apps and elevated bar food. Check out their patio in warmer months.
Get all your shopping done at Winston Plaza, where you’ll find recognizable national brands from Best Buy to Marshalls, as well as a collection of casual, family-friendly eateries.

Things to Do

With Oak Park Country Club and Thatcher Woods to the east, Melrose Park has its fair share of green space. Members of the private Oak Park club are treated to an 18-hole golf course, recently renovated swimming pool, tennis complex, and skeet and trap facility in the fall and winter months. Members come to relax, golf, socialize with family and friends.
To the south of the country club, Thatcher Woods is a 245-acre preserve with a diverse range of bird and plant life along the Des Plaines River. Amidst the floodplain forest, savanna, and prairie, it’s common to spot wildlife and a plethora of bird species. Walk the primitive trails that connect the preserve to the Trailside Museum of Natural History. Learn more about the natural and cultural history of the area and visit the nature center, open year-round.
Melrose Park residents love to gather, and the Taste of Melrose Park is no exception. Join friends and neighbors as you sample the delicacies of local restaurateurs. Or, get to know fellow residents in a class, senior program, or youth activity through the Veterans Park District.
In the summer, join the kids at Gouin Pool, beloved for its super fun waterslides, or cool off in the air-conditioned comfort of the Cinemark at Melrose Park, showing first-run films on multiple screens.
